As Summer approaches and temperatures start to rise, railway companies will be asking passengers to carry water with them while traveling.
The hot weather can make it uncomfortable for passengers along with putting stress on the railway network itself. Network Rail will often implement speed restrictions making some passengers commutes to work slightly longer. The metal rails that trains run on can often reach temperatures up to 20 degrees higher than the air temperature. Once the mercury starts to rise they will be monitored by Network Rail to avoid any accidents occurring.
Southwestern Railway have in place a scheme for mums to be; any mother expecting new borns can apply for a ‘Baby on Board’ badge and information pack directly from Southwestern Railway.
Each railway operating company will advertise any changes on their websites and social media.
